Did you hear the big news?
Medium, the blogging website that brought most of us here, bought a company called Knowable.
Not to brag, but I’ve known about the acquisition for months now. In fact, the reason I knew anything about it is that Knowable reached out to ME. Not only that, but they reached out to me because they loved Part Time!
I was utterly stunned when they asked me to record a couple of episodes, but I shook myself out of the daze and went into the recordings with an open mind.
Now, I have three episodes about freelancing and my utter failure to write an eBook.
So…
What is Knowable?
Knowable is an audio-first platform with 15(ish) minute lessons about entrepreneurship, startups, leadership, freelancing, and just about every self-improvement category you can think of.
Basically, it’s a hub with a ton of different well-paced interviews. The difference between a podcast and a Knowbable lesson is there isn’t any rambling. The lessons get to the point and stay on the point.
Oh, and it’s an app too, so it’s pretty darn easy to hit a few audio lessons during breakfast, your morning commute, or even on the way to a Michelin star restaurant.
Here’s why I’m stoked about this up-and-coming company.
1. Medium just joined forces with Knowable
If you know me, you know I’m all about Medium. It’s the first platform I learned to publish content on consistently.
One thing they’ve been missing is an easy-to-integrate audio feature. I’ve always thought it would be really cool to read my article aloud or have a vocal version of the story that goes deeper into my thought process.
Knowable is designed to do precisely that, and now that Medium is working with them, we should see an in-Medium integration.
2. They’re doing podcasts differently
I don’t like podcasts.
I think they’re boring and I’d rather listen to music when I drive. I listen to them occasionally, but I don’t feel the medium is conducive to real learning.
There needs to be a visual element, or podcasts need to be more concise.
Knowable does a great job of trimming the fat. Before Knowable conducts an interview, they work with the person they’re interviewing, so both parties are more prepared for the recording.
This leads to a better and more polished listening experience for the Knowable members.
3. They asked me to be a creator
So I may be tooting my own horn a bit here.
It’s funny; before they reached out to me, I wondered when I'd be asked to join up on a podcast to talk about my writing. Then, almost instantly, Knowable reached out to me to talk about some of my articles. Imagine that…
I pretty much manifested the opportunity.
After getting a behind-the-scenes look, I can see how special this company is, and personally, I look forward to working with them again.

Subscriptions are currently 75% off thanks to Medium, so I’d hurry up and jump in if you’re interested. And yes, this is an affiliate link! I gotta be honest, don’t I?
And as we come to a close on another week, I just want to say I hope you’re enjoying the new Friday schedule. TBH I have a blast writing specifically for you.
